A low-spreading cactus species, the Beavertail Cactus is a bushy succulent shrub with gray-blue, wide and flat, fleshy pads resembling beaver tails. The pads take on an attractive purple tinge during arid conditions. They are covered with tiny gray-blue bristles with barbed tips. Brilliant rose-purple flowers sit atop the edges of the pads, and blooms during spring to early summer. The Beavertail Cactus is also a great choice for xeriscape gardens or rock gardens, and can be propagated from woody stem cuttings or by seed.
