A bird-favorite plant, the Scarlet Firethorn is a bushy, semi-evergreen shrub with glossy, dark green leaves. While the plant blooms in profusion with clustered white flowers, they are highly valued for their masses of berries which turn to red-orange when ripe during fall, thus making them feasted by birds. On areas with mild climate, Scarlet Firethorns are best when used as an impenetrable hedge or screen to cover slopes. The only problems you should encounter when growing Scarlet Firethorns are plant diseases such as scab and blight.
