Generally, when we say ‘underwatered plants', it means simple; the plant is low on its water requirements. A simple but very common problem in the garden and sometimes needs attention. This usually occurs during summer wherein the weather conditions are hot and sometimes even hotter. It's very easy to distinguish an underwatered plant from a regularly watered plant; by looking at the leaf color, leaf texture and some roots that could be emerging from its surface.
