The California lilac (Ceanothus) has a beautiful foliage, highly drought-tolerant and also a nitrogen-fixing shrub which can be a gardener's main attraction in his/her backyard. They produce a sweet scent that can surely attract butterflies, hummingbirds and (most of all) bees. They only require little water but can be placed under a full sun, with a shade when grown in an extremely hot area.
