Cholla Cactus (Cylindropuntia) are primarily shrubby or groundcover cacti and are highly segmented with many joints separating their cylindrical stems, and their spines are known for being quite nasty. Several species of Cholla have earned themselves the nickname ‘Jumping Cholla' due to a unique trick, wherein their stems are attached to a passersby at the slightest touch as if they jump out at you. Also known for being hardy, they need direct sunlight in order to thrive and make sure you have them placed in a west or south-facing window wherein the sun’s rays are hitting the plant directly.
