How to grow and care for a Dark Throat Shooting Star flower

An award winning plant, the Dark Throat Shooting Star flower is an herbaceous perennial boasting umbels of brilliant magenta to deep cerise flowers, resembling cyclamen blooms. Its flowers has swept-back petals adorned with a white collar at their base and a yellow ring, under which five stamens join to form a downward-pointing beak. The charming blossoms are borne on upright, leafless, flowerscapes that rise from a basal rosette of lance-shaped, deep green leaves. They perform best in full sun or part shade on well-drained soils, but avoid poorly-drained, wet soils, particularly in winter.
