Not to be mistaken for a rose, the Rosea is a tweedy lewisia variety that forms a large rosette of fleshy, obovate green leaves, often suffused with purple. Its main highlight are pretty sprays of deep rose, funnel-shaped flowers, adorned with pale yellow stripes along each glistening petal appear during spring. Rosea is a perfect choice if you're building rock gardens, but can be of value when grown in containers. They thrive in full sun to light shade and propagate by removing offsets or by seed sown in pots in a cold frame in autumn.
