The Red Spider Lily is known for its blooming period once any other plants are usually starting to slow down, specially during winter. After its dormancy in summer, this plant sends up tall flower stalks with umbels of bright red flowers and last for about two weeks and gradually fade to a lighter pinkish hue. The name ‘spider lily' comes from the stamens of the flowers that resemble spider legs. Though not invasive, it is a fast and vigorous spreader and a good choice to interplant with annuals and perennials in spots where you want a vibrant splash of color in the late summer and early fall.
