They look a lot like cabbages because of their round-shaped flower heads and they're also cultivated as vegetables and they're called globe artichokes (or simply artichokes). In order for them to grow healthy, they should be planted in a fertile & well-drained soil with partial heat. Through the years, artichokes has been also used in making teas and liquors as well.
