Unlike many orchids, the Shi-ran is an easy to care hardy terrestrial Chinese ground orchid and it produces small gives you small, cattleya-like purple pink flowers. These flowers rise above the foliage and blooms for about upto 6 weeks starting in late spring. After flowering, green seedheads follow but turn into brown as they mature. The Shi-ran should be easily grown on organically rich, moist, well-drained soil and should be on a shaded area. These orchids are attractive when grown in pots and containers, and on rock gardens as well.
