The pink to deep red flowers are formed in drooping clusters which smother the shrub, creating a wonderful floral view. These blooms are followed by blue-black berries with waxy white coating, and is used primarily in making jams, jellies, syrup and juice. Its foliage is of rounded, deep-green leaves and turns into yellow and red during fall. This plant provides early nectar source for butterflies and hummingbirds and also a forage to moths and nesting sites to some songbirds, thus consuming the berries.
