The Marsh Helleborine is a terrestrial orchid which can produce up to 25 small flowers presenting a variable combination of brownish-purple and creamy-green shades. They bloom during summer, as its blossoms are borne on a green stem, flushed pink-to-brown. This orchid bears broad funnel-shaped leaves, which is sometimes flushed purple, that clasp the lower stem. They're also highly vigorous, and spread by rhizomes and self-seeding to form large colonies over time. Marsh Helleborines perform best in consistently moist to wet, well-drained soils in full or light shade, and propagation is done by division in spring.
